CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION 2021 | Event Date: Friday, 17th, December 2021

Hindustan Group of Institutions' (HGI) Christmas Celebration 2021 was organised at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science campus at Padur on 17 December. Mr. P. W. C. Davidar, I.A.S., (Retd), Former Additional Chief Secretary, Govt. of TN, Advisor-TNeGA presided over the event as the Chief Guest. The day also marked the Launch of "Sound Works" recording studio. Dr. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institution, and Chancellor, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science; Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Director & CEO, Hindustan Group of Institutions; Dr. Aby Sam and Mr. Ashok Verghese, Directors, Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science were seen at the event.

The celebration commenced with Opening Prayer of Rev. Zachariah Alexander, Vicar, St. Paul’s Mar Thoma Church, Adyar followed by Opening Hymn & Carol, “O Come All Ye Faithful…” The Bible Reading (Isaiah 9: 2-7 & St. Luke 2:1-14) was done by Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts & Science; and Ms. Tiya Liz Jacob. In the presidential address, Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Verghese, Chairperson, Hindustan Group of Institutions remarked, "Christmas is a season of love, marking God's entry in to the Universe, the birth of King of Kings, into Bethlehem. The real essence of Christmas is to share the blessings the Lord has given us with the less privileged brothers and sisters." The true meaning of Christmas is to "Look beyond the manger to the cross of Calvary", and the real essence of Christmas is to “share the blessings the Lord has given us with the less privileged brothers and sisters", Dr. Elizabeth added.

Mr. P. W. C. Davidar's Christmas message drew an instance of Christmas celebration at Netherlands, and referred to the varied ways and traditions of celebrations across the world. He iterated, "the first celebration of Christmas was all about HOPE: it had powerful words such as 'great joy', 'peace', 'good will towards men', 'saviour', 'God is with us'. etc." Further, Mr. P. W. C. Davidar beseeched, “if one can release bottled up feelings, God of peace will release him/her to joy and lighten up lives.”

Carol renditions were given by Hindustan College of Arts & Science; K.C.G College of Technology, Karapakam; Hindustan International School – Guindy; Orient Flights Aviation Academy, Mysore; and HIET, Padappai. Dance performances were given by Hindustan International School – Padur; and Hindustan College, Mysuru. Special Song was carolled by Dr. Annie Jacob Verghese, Director, K.C.G College of Technology, Karapakam. Special Performances by the Winners of "Carol The King" Contest--Women’s Christian College, Chennai (First Prize - College Category); and STAVES Choir Group, Chennai (Second Prize - Open Category) gained appreciations from the gathering. Winners of “Biblia”, an Online Bible Quiz and “Carol the King”, an Online Carol Competition were honoured at the event with Cash Prizes.

The celebration also observed “Release of Malayalam Version of Wheels and Wings- Founder’s Autobiography” and “Release of HGI Calendar” by Mr. P. W. C. Davidar. Ms. Pushpa Kurup, Editor, Wheels and Wings was honoured at the function by Dr. Susan Marthandan, Director, Hindustan College of Arts & Science.

Prior to the Christmas celebration, a grand launch of "Sound Works", a recording studio of Department Visual Communication, (School of Liberal Arts and Applied Sciences) at the Bay range campus, HITS was unveiled by Mr. Darbuka Siva, Music Director; and Mr. P.W.C. Mr. Davidar, Retired IAS Officer. The studio is equipped with state-of-the-art facility consisting a live room equipped with microphones and mic stands; and a console room equipped with Yamaha TFI mixing console and audio recording software. "Sound Works" also houses various musical instruments for practice.
