The 5 th Annual International Yoga Day 2019 threw an alarm of being health conscious and maintain a balanced lifestyle amidst all hustles. ‘Yoga,’ derived from Sanskrit, refers to join or unite; symbolizing the union of body and consciousness. Originated in India as an ancient form of practice to keep body and mind active, Yoga continues to grow in popularity across the world.
The Office of Student Affairs organized a programme on 21 June 2019 where Yoga Guru accompanied by trained volunteers conducted practice sessions in a conducive way as per directions received from Ministry. Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, Founder, Krishnamurthy Yoga Foundation, Chennai while presiding over the function elaborated the systematic procedures and importance of Yoga for different age groups. Demonstrations of ‘Asanas’ in varied positions in smooth succession under the instructions of Yoga teacher and supervision of trained volunteers were carried out. During the course, the Yoga teacher also narrated the values of different ‘Asanas’ as a precautionary measure in curing many ailments. Almost 200 students and staff Yoga enthusiasts took part in the event.
