The 16th Convocation of Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (HITS) was held on 20th September 2025 at the Bay Range Campus, Padur, Chennai. The ceremony was graced by H.E. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Ambassador of Eritrea and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps (India), as the Chief Guest.
Mr. Rajesh Nambiar, President of NASSCOM, Dr. Abraham Varughese, Director, Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), DRDO, and Dr. C. Emmanuel, Director, Academics and Research, Gleneagles Health City, Chennai, were the Guests of Honour and Honoris Causa Awardees of the most prestigious event of the year. The celebration was presided over by the Chancellor, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, and attended by the esteemed officials of HITS.
The guests and dignitaries came together to honour Rank Holders, Ph.D. Awardees, and Graduates who brought glory to the institution during the academic year 2024–2025.
The Founder Dr. K.C.G. Verghese Award for the Best Researcher was conferred upon Ms. Swathi N, Ph.D. Scholar (ECE), for her exemplary contributions to research, growth, and development. The Founder Chancellor Dr. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Verghese Award for Best Academic Proficiency was presented to Mr. Vishnu Priyan J, B.Tech (IT – CS), the University Academic Topper, in recognition of his outstanding academic excellence. The Chancellor Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese Award for the Best Outgoing Student was awarded to Ms. Shivaranjeni, B.Tech (Aero), for her remarkable performance in academics, co-curricular, and extracurricular activities. The Pro Chancellor Dr. Ashok George Verghese Award for Best Placement was presented to Mr. Aswin Veer S, MBA (Business Analytics).
A total of 2,532 graduating students received their Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral Degrees across various disciplines under the School of Engineering and Technology, School of Planning, Architecture and Design Excellence, School of Law, School of Management, School of Basic and Applied Sciences, School of Liberal and Creative Arts, School of Health Sciences, and the Centre for Open and Digital Education (CODE). Eighty-eight rank holders were honoured with Medals and Cash Prizes totalling 13 Lakhs for their exceptional achievements. The Chancellor conferred the awards and degrees with immense pride and honour.
In his convocation address, Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor of HITS and Chairman of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, congratulated the graduates on their academic accomplishments and urged them to continue their lifelong pursuit of knowledge. He emphasized the importance of curiosity, research, innovation, and perseverance in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities.
Delivering the Chief Guest’s address, H.E. Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam shared inspiring experiences from his academic and professional journey, encouraging graduates to face life’s challenges with determination, compassion, and a spirit of continuous learning.
Dr. S. Ganesan, Vice-Chancellor (I/C), presented the Annual Report 2024–2025, highlighting the university’s key milestones, global collaborations, infrastructure advancements, and academic achievements that made the year a remarkable one in HITS’s history.
The 16th Convocation of HITS truly embodied the institution’s mission to empower the next generation of leaders, researchers, innovators, and global citizens—continuing the legacy of excellence envisioned by its Founder, Dr. K.C.G. Verghese.
