Bachelor of Arts (B.A) English Literature

The study of literature, language, and culture has regained its popularity as one of the most sought-after academic disciplines worldwide. This renewed interest in literature and other humanities subjects signifies a positive trend, especially in a world grappling with issues related to regionalism, linguistic differences, and cultural diversity. Moreover, the field of education demands a higher level of professionalism in today's rapidly changing landscape. Consequently, increased attention is being given to theoretical research in relatively newer sub-disciplines like Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), among others.
• BA ENGLISH program is designed to amalgamate theory, research, project, internship and practical application of earned knowledge and skills offering a unique blend of knowledge and hands-on experience. This program not only provides a comprehensive foundation but also opens doors for postgraduate and doctoral studies in English due to its extensive coverage of both language and literature. Notably, it places a strong emphasis on practical elements in Literature and Language studies.

Career Opportunities after BA English

• Content Writing/Editing: With strong language and writing skills, you can pursue roles in content creation, editing, and proofreading for online platforms, publishing houses, marketing agencies, or newspapers.
• Teaching/Education: Pursue a career in teaching at schools, colleges, or as a private tutor. You might need additional qualifications like B.Ed. or a postgraduate degree for certain positions.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES (PEO) 

• PEO 1: Graduates will impart knowledge of basic psychological concepts and methods, and developing ability to appreciate the challenges in field settings.
• PEO 2: Graduates will acquire basic skills in major areas of application (e.g., psychological testing, experimentation, counselling, interviewing, data analysis, report writing).  Graduates will develop a strong sense of ethical and moral aptness in general and in the context of learning and its assessment in particular.
• PEO 3: Graduates will promote self-understanding, reflexivity and personal growth and understand the complexities of self and human relationships and how the two make each other up. Graduates will master the basic reflective, analytical, scientific writing, computational and communicative competencies and develop respect for social diversity and increasing social and cultural relevance of learning.

• PSO 1: Apply critical frameworks to analyze the linguistic, cultural, and historical background of texts written in English.
• PSO 2: Qualify to avail prospects in academia and other competitive jobs in areas such as ELT, journalism and mass communication, editing and publishing, marketing and public relations, through the proficiency in the language. 
• PSO 3: Educate students in both the artistry and utility of the English language through an artistic/aesthetic study of language through texts and the various historical and contemporary forms of culture.
