About the Department

The Department of Mathematics under the School of Liberal Arts and Applied Science integrates all the branches of Engineering and Science by imparting the knowledge of Engineering Mathematics at UG and PG levels. It comprises well qualified and experienced faculty members.
The objective of the department is to train students in the innovative field of Applied Mathematics inculcating the concepts of computing, optimizing, grouping, classifying, testing and applying various tools of Mathematics in the field of Engineering and Technology. 
The Department has a Mathematics Club, which actively motivates the student to hone their Math skills and knowledge. 
Math Curriculum is integrated with MATLAB to introduce programming concepts through engaging assignments and projects.

Program Objective 

  • To provide strong Mathematical background to Engineering Graduates to cope up with the needs of emerging technology at National and International levels.
  • To provide strong mathematical foundation, analytical and computational skills and abstract understanding to young post graduate Mathematics students which enable them to handle any industrial and research problems.
  • To provide basic and advanced skills to students in Computer Science & Information Technology enabling self-reliance and excellence in capabilities.
  • To enable students to play vital roles in the fields of Computer Science and Mathematics at the local level and to remain globally competitive
  • To promote high quality research in pure and applied Mathematics in the diversified area thereby creating opportunities for the young researchers to contribute significantly in the frontier areas of Mathematics.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (ALIGNED WITH GRADUATE ATTRIBUTES) (PO)

At the end of this program, graduates will be able to:

  • PO 1: Scholarship of Knowledge: Acquire in-depth knowledge of specific discipline or   professional area, including wider and global perspective, with an ability to discriminate evaluate, analyse and synthesize existing and new knowledge, and integration of the same for enhancement of knowledge.
  • PO 2: Critical Thinking: Analyse complex mathematical problems critically, apply independent judgment for synthesizing information to make intellectual and/or creative advances for conducting research in a wider, theoretical, practical and policy context.
  • PO 3: Problem Solving: Think laterally and originally, conceptualize and solve mathematical problems, evaluate a wide range of potential solutions for those and arrive at feasible, optimal Solutions after considering public health and safety, cultural, societal and environmental factors in the core areas of expertise.
  • PO 4: Research Skill: Extract information pertinent to unfamiliar problems through literature survey and experiments, apply appropriate research methodologies, techniques and tools, design, conduct experiments, analyse and interpret data, demonstrate higher order skill and view things in a broader perspective, contribute individually / in group(s) to the development of scientific/ technological / programming knowledge in one or more domains of mathematics
  • PO 5: Usage of Modern Tools: Create, select, learn, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and IT tools, including prediction and modelling to complex mathematical activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO 6: Collaborative and Multidisciplinary Work: Process knowledge and understanding of group dynamics, recognize opportunities and contribute positively to collaborate- multidisciplinary scientific research, demonstrate a capacity for self-management and teamwork, decision—making based on open-mindedness, objectivity and rational analysis in order to achieve common goals and further the learning of themselves as well as others.
  • PO 7: Project Management and Finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of mathematical and management principles and apply the same one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, manage projects efficiently in respective disciplines and multidisciplinary environments after consideration of economic and financial factors.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)

The Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) for Mathematics describe accomplishments that  students are expected to attain within four years after post-graduation.

  • PEO I: To provide students’ knowledge and insight in Mathematics and hence  
               they are able to work as a mathematical professional.
  • PEO II: To prepare them to pursue higher studies and conduct research.
  • PEO III: To provide students with knowledge and capability in formulating 
                & analysis of mathematical models in real life application
  • PEO IV: To develop teaching skills, subject knowledge in the course of their 
                study which will help them shine in various field including Education, 
                IT etc.

About the Program:

M.Sc. Mathematics (Integrated Program) (Duration - 4 Years) :

  • Provides knowledge on pure mathematics, statistics, and computer science.  In addition to that, students also learn Languages, Physics as a binding subject.  
  • Students can select elective modules that fit their particular interests. 
  • Students have to undertake a major research project dissertation, covering a specific research-level topic of their choice. 
  • The modules are offered to reflect research strengths of the institution and are framed in such a way that the candidates are competent enough to take up the tests like NET, SET, GATE etc.

Career Prospects:

Academic, Research & Development, Banking, Insurance, Software, Information Technology, Scientific and Engineering fields.

Eligibility:

Pass in 10+2 or a related Diploma from a recognized Central/State Board with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as compulsory subjects.
