Mass Communication and Journalism

About the program

MA Mass Communication and Journalism programme is designed to train students in the area of
Broadcast Journalism, Print Journalism, and Online Journalism. The curriculum is prepared to offer a
perfect blend of theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to the students through courses like
Reporting, Editing, Audio-video production, Photojournalism, and Media writing. Students are
encouraged to prepare portfolios, documentary production and research projects in the form of
assignments. Students get exposure in the fields of television news production, public relations, corporate
communication, and audiovisual communication.

PO and PSO

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES (PO’s):

  • PO1: Apply the concepts of communication, its role, and importance in society and impart
    the knowledge of Journalism and Mass communication
  • PO2: To impart skills related to Information Communication Technologies (ICTs), including
    digital and media literacy and competencies.
  • PO3: To apply objectivity and critical thinking for communicating to the masses through
    various mediums such as short films, documentary Films, Television, advertising, PR
    campaigns, event management, and newspaper production for print.
  • PO4: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments,
    analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid
    conclusions.
  • PO5: Communicate effectively across various platforms of Media. At the end of the course
    will be having hands-on experience with extensive training and media exposure through
    formal internships.
  • PO6: Understand the impact of journalism in societal and environmental contexts, and
    demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development
  • PO7: Design media content with social responsibility along with ethical and professional
    standards to meet the demands of the media environment at various levels including
    regional, national, and global
  • PO8: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and
    multidisciplinary settings.
