ORIENTATION-PROGRAMME-B.TECH-FIRST-YEAR-2017-18 | Event Date: Tuesday, 1st, August 2017
The Orientation Programme for First year B.Tech students (2017-18) was conducted on 1st August 2017. The programme was held in two sessions, forenoon session (10.00-12.30) for Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical & Mechatronics and the afternoon session (2.30-4.30) for Automobile, CSE,ECE,EEE, Chemical, Biotech, IT &Civil.
The programme started with an invocation by Rev. Father Joby Varghese, Student Chaplain. This was followed by a video presentation on the legacy of Hindustan Group of institutions, highlighting the vision “To Make Every man a success and no man a Failure”.
Dr.S. Ramachandran, Vice-Chancellor, delivered the welcome address. He stated that, “education is a vital part in everyone’s life, it enables you, it enhances you and it helps you transform your life holistically”. He stressed the fact that, “Success is the result of preparation, hard work and what you learn from others. He also laid stress on the importance to enhance communication skills and also presented the statistical survey regarding the requirement of the prospective recruiters. He informed that they select candidates with good Spoken English and Employability skills.
Dr. N. Vasudevan, Dean Academics, presented an overview of the academic rules and regulations of the university. He emphasised the difference between affiliated system and university system and proceeded with the 2015 regulations of the university, focussing on OBE and CBCS. Brig.Dr. Ravi Varman, Dean Admin, delivered all the General Rules and regulations to be followed in the campus and Hostel. The students were made aware of the significance of the anti-ragging cell, wearing of ID cards, use of mobile phones and the dress code in the campus.
Mr.S.Kandaswamy, Dean Student Affairs, gave a presentation on the importance of discipline in the campus. Dr. Vallikannu, Prof. ECE Dept & YRC Coordinator, familiarised the students with the activities of YRC in the campus. Dr. Manivannan, Prof. Aero Dept and NSS Coordinator, briefed about the activities of NSS and motivated the students to join NSS. Fg. Offr. R. Giri, highlighted the activities and achievements of NCC and inspired the students to join NCC. Dr.Selvamuthu kumar, PED, School of Physical Education, gave a glimpse of the activities and amenities of the Physical Education Department. The students were encouraged to make use of the training facilities available in the campus.
Mr. M.Veerachami, Chief Librarian, familiarised the students with the infrastructure of the library. An overview of the online books and journals, digital library and the do’s and don’ts in the library were given. Dr. Ramesh Babu, HoD, School of Science and Humanities, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme enabled the First year students to have some insights into the rules and regulations pertaining to academic as well as non- academic activities in the University, the scope for self - development, and the opportunities to enrich their learning experience.
