About HITS

Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS), is a leading prestigious and recognized institution in India, located at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. About the Department

Department of Languages was established in the year 1985 in the School of Science and Humanities. The Department of Languages, offers Foreign and Indian Languages across all Engineering disciplines, School of Liberal Arts, Management, Architecture and School of Law.

About the Courses Offered

Professional English and Soft Skills is offered to all first-year engineering students and Communication Skills and 14 Non-Department Electives are offered for higher semester engineering students. English is offered for Liberal Arts students for two semesters. General English is offered for Law students for two semesters. Three Indian Languages Tamil, Hindi and Telugu and six Foreign Languages, German, French, Japanese, Mandarin, Korean and Spanish are offered. Value added courses Business English Certification (BEC) Course and Non-Departmental Elective courses are offered across all disciplines.

Department of Languages offers degree programmes BA English, MA English and Ph.D. The department also caters to short term programmes, English, Indian History, Business for International Students, (EIBIS), English, Indian Culture for International Students (EICIS), Special English and Hindi for International Students (SEHIS) and Special English Course for International Students (SECIS). Communication skills language lab sessions, workshops and training are conducted in the language labs of the department

The Department of Languages aims at enabling the student community towards career advancement globally, by equipping them with creative intelligence and intercultural competence using language skills.

The Department of Languages is dedicated to enhancement of the learner’s communicative competence, language proficiency and cultural insight to help in career advancement and to make them evolve as global citizens.

Background of the Conference

India has had a long history of maritime contacts, with the ports of Kerala playing an important role. Kollam, also known as Quilon, had a brisk trade with almost all the ancient civilizations and possessed a rich tradition of maritime relations with foreign countries like the Romans, the Phoenicians, the Arabs, the Chinese, the Portuguese, the Dutch, and the English through the centuries. The migration of a group of people of West Asian traders marked an important event in the history of Kerala. This international conference is organised as India is having the largest diaspora in the world and is playing a decisive role in migration studies in this century.

Call for Papers

Academicians, Practitioners, Research Scholars, and Students of Social work, History, Languages, Law and Allied disciplines who are interested in presenting papers at the conference are invited to submit an abstract contouring the focus and content of their paper along with a short biographical description. Papers should pertain to the broad focus of the conference and the presenter may choose to consider one of the themes or related areas.

  • Abstract within 250-300 words including Title and Keywords.
  • Abstract text should be arranged in the format: Introduction, Objectives, Methodology, Results and Conclusion.
